A sterilization device (10) is provided having a flexible housing element (12) that is smaller in diameter than the diameter of the lumen of the isthmic portion of the fallopian tube, a heating element (14) carried by the housing element adjacent to its distal end, and an energy source (18) coupled to the heating element such that when the energy source is energized the temperature of the heating element will be increased. A procedure is described for inserting the sterilization device (10) through the uterus and into the isthmic portion of the fallopian tube where the heating element (14) is energized and the heat generated destroys the mucosal layer and damages the muscular layer of the fallopian tube wall inducing sufficient scarification to occlude the fallopian tube.
L'invention concerne un dispositif (10) de stérilisation comportant un élément (12) de logement flexible dont le diamètre est plus petit que celui de la lumière de la partie de l'isthme de la trompe de Fallope; un élément (14) chauffant porté par l'élément de logement de façon adjacente à l'extrémité distale de ce dernier; et une source (18) d'énergie couplée à l'élément chauffant, de sorte que lorsque la source d'énergie est activée, la température de l'élément chauffant augmente. Une procédure décrite permet d'insérer le dispositif (10) de stérilisation par l'utérus à l'intérieur de la partie de l'isthme de la trompe de Fallope, dans laquelle l'élément (14) chauffant est activé, la chaleur produite détruisant la couche muqueuse et endommageant la couche musculaire de la paroi de la trompe de Fallope, ce qui provoque une scarification suffisante pour occlure la trompe de Fallope.
