A method of determining the size and/or placement of a prosthetic disc in a disc space between adjacent endplates of two vertebrae in a selected spinal area, comprising: using a computer to identify the disc space parameters of height, width, depth and lordosis between the adjacent vertebral endplates; using a computer to create an artificial volume corresponding to an actual prosthetic disc that can be positioned in the disc space in accordance with a manufacturer's size and lordosis specifications for prosthesis; using a computer to determine the center of the disc space and the center of rotation of the prosthetic disc volume; using a computer to position the prosthetic disc volume in the disc space such that the center of rotation of the prosthetic disc volume is positioned posterior to the center of the disc space; and using a computer to determine the prosthetic disc volume that fits within the disc space in accordance with a surgeon's or manufacturer's specification for prosthesis.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la taille et/ou de mettre en place une prothèse de disque intervertébral dans un espace intervertébral adjacent à des plateaux vertébraux de deux vertèbres, dans une région sélectionnée de la colonne vertébrale. Le procédé consiste: à utiliser un ordinateur pour identifier les paramètres de hauteur, de largeur, de profondeur et de lordose de l'espace intervertébral situé entre deux plateaux vertébraux adjacents; à utiliser un ordinateur pour créer un volume artificiel correspondant à une prothèse de disque actuelle pouvant être mise en place dans l'espace intervertébral conformément aux précisions concernant la prothèse, en termes de taille et de lordose; à utiliser un ordinateur pour déterminer le centre de l'espace intervertébral et le centre de rotation du volume de la prothèse de disque; à utiliser un ordinateur pour mettre en place le volume de la prothèse de disque dans l'espace intervertébral de sorte que le centre de rotation du volume de la prothèse de disque soit positionné en arrière du centre de l'espace intervertébral; et à utiliser un ordinateur pour déterminer que le volume de la prothèse de disque est bien adapté à l'espace intervertébral, conformément aux précisions concernant la prothèse fournies par le chirurgien ou le fabricant.
