APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR TREATING CELLULOSIC FIBERS ABSTRACT Defibration of pulp is enhanced by using a pair of intermeshing screws having an abrasive grit surface applied to the flights of the screws. Preferably, the abrasive grit is applied by a spray coating process, either plasma spraying or thermal spraying. The grit may be a tungsten carbide grit.
