ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus and process for continuously concentrating and washing solids in a solids-containing fluid comprises a unitary housing containing both a solids separation or con- centrating chamber and a solids or concentrate washing chamber: an inlet is provided in the housing for injecting a continuous supply of a solids-containing fluid into the separation chamber: within the separation chamber a dynamic filtering system is provided by which the solids and the fluid in the solids-con- taining fluid are separated to form a concentrate of solids and a filtrate: the dynamic filtering system includes a plurality of stationary filter elements and a plurality of rotor elements mounted to a rotatable shaft or rotor within the housing: the rotor elements extend outwardly from the rotor and adjacent the filter elements to form a plurality of alternating rotor elements and filter elements within the housing: the solids or concentrate washing chamber is disposed within the housing downstream of the dynamic filtering system, and includes a plurality of stationary filter elements and a plurality of alternating rotor elements mounted to a rotatable shaft or rotor within the housing in a fashion similar to that of the corresponding elements in the filtering system the apparatus can be used, for example, to wash salts an acid or alkali out of a concentrate or to wash an organic material such as tar out of a concentrate.
