ABSTRACT A process and an apparatus for determining the thickness of a fatty layer are described, in which the fatty layer is illuminated at different points. The light intensity passing out of the fatty layer is measured and conclu- sions are drawn regarding the ratio of the different intensities to the fatty layer thickness.
