ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for producing a low density spray dried product, in- cluding a spray nozzle having a central aperture and slotted apertures ra- diating out from the center. The spray dried product comprises beads which have the generally irregularly shaped central portion, formed by the cen- tral aperture and at least one nodule disposed on the central portion formed by the slotted apertures. The process for producing the spray dried product includes the steps of spraying a liquid mixture of the product through a non- circular orifice and collecting the resulting product. The instant appa- ratus also provides effective means for reducing the density of a product which may be in excess of the density required for a particular use.
