Fire-refined blister copper is produced from copper concentrate by a process comprising: (A) melting and oxidizing the copper concentrate in a smelting furnace (17) to produce molten matte and slag, and to separate one from the other, (B) removing the molten matte from the smelting furnace (17); (C) solidifying the molten matte; (D) injecting the solidified matte into a converting furnace (33) in which the matte is converted to blister copper and slag; and (E) transferring the blister copper from the converting furnace to an anode furnace (47a and 47b) to produce fire-refined blister copper. After the fire-refined blister copper is produced in the anode furnace, it is typically transferred to an anode casting wheel (66) on which it is converted to copper anodes suitable for subsequent electrolytic refining to cathode copper.

On produit du cuivre noir affiné au feu à partir d'un concentré de cuivre par un procédé consistant: (A) à fondre et oxyder le concentré de cuivre dans un four de fusion (17) pour produire une matte fondue et des scories et séparer ces deux produits, (B) à évacuer la matte fondue du four de fusion (17), (C) à solidifier la matte fondue, (D) à injecter la matte solidifiée dans un four de conversion (33) dans lequel la matte est convertie en cuivre noir et en scories et (E) à transférer le cuivre noir du four de conversion vers un four à anode (47a et 47b) pour produire un cuivre noir affiné au feu. Après avoir produit le cuivre noir affiné au feu dans le four à anodes, celui-ci est normalement transféré vers une roue (66) de coulée d'anodes où il est converti en anodes de cuivre utilisables ensuite pour un raffinage électrolytique en cuivre cathodique.
