ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus and process for the partial com- bustion of pulverulent solid fuel at elevated pressure, the apparatus includes a reactor and a centrifugal solids pump, the pump contains an inlet and a rotor, the inlet leading to the centre of the rotor and the rotor having one or more essentially radial passages normal to the axis of rotation which passages communicate with the said inlet and are open at their outward extremity and the rotor being surrounded by a casing consisting of two identical halves each surrounding half of the rotor, of which casing halves the radial distances to the rotor increase in equal manner up to the point where the casing halves lead tangentially away from the rotor, characterized in that in the reactor two burners are arranged dia- metrically opposite each other and the outlet of each casing half is directly connected to either burner by means of a separate pipeline; by means of the apparatus of the invention the coal gasification process is rendered more economic.
