The apparatus receives an input signal via an antenna or cable (2), and the signal is applied to a frequency converter (4). Frequency converter generates complex I Q baseband signals which are applied to a respective correlator comprising a multiplier (6) and an accumulator (12) in respect of the inphase signal and the multiplier (8) and an accumulator (14) in respect of the quadrature phase signal. The output of the correlators are subjected to a modulus squaring function which comprises multipliers (16, 18) and an adder (20). The output of the adder (20) is applied to a store (22), and the inputs and outputs to the store are arranged to be added together in an adder (24), the output of which is compared in a comparator (26).

l'appareil reçoit un signal d'entrée par l'intermédiaire d'une antenne ou d'un câble (2) et le signal est dirigé sur un convertisseur de fréquence (4). Ledit convertisseur génère des signaux complexes I et Q en bande de base qui sont dirigés sur leurs corrélateurs respectifs comprenant un multiplicateur (6) et un accumulateur (12) correspondant au signal en phase et un multiplicateur (8) et un accumulateur (14) correspondant au signal en quadrature. Les signaux de sortie des corrélateurs sont traités par une fonction d'élévation au carré à l'aide des multiplicateurs (16, 18) et d'un totalisateur (20). Les signaux de sortie du totalisateur (20) alimentent une mémoire (22), et les signaux d'entrée et de sortie de la mémoire (22) sont conditionnés pour être additionnés ensemble dans un totalisateur (24) dont les signaux de sortie sont comparés dans un comparateur (26).
