ABSTRACT Described is an apparatus for adapting the diameter of the disk-like recording medium. The apparatus includes a supporting member in the form of a ring having an opening for exposing the signal record area of the disk-like recording medium, such as an optical disk, to the outside, and having a diameter larger than the diameter of the disk-like recording medium. The recording medium is integrally retained by a holding system provided to the supporting member for holding the outer perimeter of the recording medium.
