An apparatus for adjustably profiling a cant comprising a first and a second shaft rotatably mounted on a first and a second frame, respectively. A first and a second laterally spaced-apart pair of cutting devices are slidably and rotatably mounted on the first and second shaft, respectively. The first and the second laterally spaced-apart pair of cutting devices may be selectively laterally, angularly, and vertically displaced relative to the longitudinal centerline of a cant to accommodate any inherent irregularities and defects of the cant by way of a plurality of linear positioners which are pneumatically or hydraulically driven actuators. The first and the second laterally spaced-apart pair of cutting devices may be profiling heads for removing a notch from the wane corners of the cant or they may be chipping heads for removing a wane surface from the cant to produce flat parallel surfaces. In an embodiment of the invention, the apparatus includes both chipping heads and profiling heads.
