An apparatus for adjusting the body temperature of a patient comprises an enclosure defining an interior space for receiving at least a portion of a patient's body therein. The enclosure is adapted for substantially sealingly enclosing the portion of the patient's body within the interior space with the enclosure. Heat transfer liquid may then be circulated through the interior space of the enclosure via an inlet and an outlet for flow over the patient's body in direct liquid contact therewith to promote heat transfer between the patient's body and said heat transfer liquid. The heat transfer liquid may be either warmer or cooler than the patient's body temperature, to either warm or cool the portion. Controlled cooling may be employed to induce therapeutic hypothermia, while controlled warming may be employed to counteract unintended hypothermia. The apparatus further comprises a portable control unit that includes a liquid delivery system, a power source, a control system and a user interface for powering and controlling the liquid delivery system.
L'invention concerne un appareil, destiné à régler la température corporelle d'un patient, comprenant une enceinte définissant un espace intérieur servant à recevoir au moins une partie du corps du patient. Cette enceinte est adaptée à enfermer sensiblement de façon étanche la portion du corps du patient dans l'espace intérieur de l'enceinte. Le liquide de transfert de chaleur peut être alors mis en circulation à travers l'espace intérieur de l'enceinte via une entrée et une sortie afin de s'écouler sur le corps du patient en contact direct afin de favoriser le transfert de chaleur entre le liquide et le corps du patient. La température du liquide de transfert de chaleur peut être plus élevée ou plus faible que la température corporelle du patient, afin de réchauffer ou de refroidir la portion corporelle. Il est possible d'utiliser un refroidissement régulé afin d'induire une hypothermie thérapeutique, alors qu'un réchauffement régulé peut être utilisé afin de contrer une hypothermie inattendue. L'appareil comprend aussi une unité de commande portative comprenant un système de distribution de liquide, une source d'alimentation, un système de commande et une interface utilisateur destinée à mettre en marche et à commander le système de distribution de liquide.
