Apparatus for and method of executing customized interactive computing services in a broadband network environment. A device on the broadband network (30) is capable of retrieving user-defined data over the network (50) and formal and display it on an associated display along with data broadcast over the broadband network (30). The device may be customer premise equipment (10) such as set-top-box, gaming console, or home gateway connected to the broadband network. In the case of a set-top-box, the broadcast data would be television programming. The device is preferably capable of retrieving data from a source on the internet. Retrieval and formatting are preferably carried out by compact software agents which are sent to the device through the network to be stored in and to execute on the device.
Cette invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé permettant d'exécuter des services informatiques interactifs personnalisés dans un environnement de réseau à large bande. Un dispositif se trouvant sur ce réseau à large bande (30) est capable d'extraire des données définies par l'utilisateur sur le réseau (50) et de les formater et de les afficher sur une unité d'affichage associée conjointement aux données télédiffusées par le réseau de télédiffusion (30). Le dispositif peut être un équipement (10) installé dans les locaux du client, tel qu'un décodeur, une console de jeux ou une passerelle domestique connectée au réseau à large bande. Dans le cas d'un décodeur, les données télédiffusées vont être des programmes de télévision. Le dispositif est capable de préférence d'extraire les données d'une source Internet. L'extraction et le formatage sont de préférence effectués par des agents logiciels compacts qui sont envoyés au dispositif par l'intermédiaire du réseau pour être mémorisés et exécutés sur le dispositif..
