The present invention is directed to a combination software and/or hardware system that provides consumers and merchants with a secure method for making and accepting credit card and ATM card payments over the Internet. Using various software and/or hardware implementations, the system operates by: 1) creating (at the consumer's Internet access device) a Data Encryption Standard (DES) encrypted Personal Identification Number (PIN) Block meeting American National Standards Institute (ANSI) X9.8 and Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) network requirements (as a result of the consumer entering their PIN number and encryption automatically taking place); 2) using additional layer(s) of encryption (also performed at the consumer's Internet access device) to place the PIN block and card information in a public key/private key encrypted financial payment transaction data block ("FP Block"); 3) transmitting the FP Block to the merchant, along with any necessary product or service order information, which may be transmitted over the Internet encrypted or in the clear according to the implementation method chosen by the system software at the merchant's web site; 4) software at the merchant location then forwards the FP Block to a secure transaction management system, where the FP Block is decrypted using a decryption algorithm matching that used by the software at the consumer's Internet access device. The financial data is then re-formatted for transmission to the appropriate transaction processing network, and forwarded to the payment service processor accordingly. The present invention is independent of the encryption algorithm(s) used, and may be implemented with any number of encryption algorithms.
L'invention concerne un système combiné logiciel et/ou équipement fournissant aux consommateurs et aux commerçants un procédé sécurisé permettant de réaliser et d'accepter des paiements par cartes de crédit et par cartes GAB sur Internet. Le système utilise diverses applications logiciel et/ou équipement et il consiste: 1) à créer (dans le dispositif d'accès à l'Internet du consommateur) une norme de chiffrement de données (DES), un numéro d'identification personnel (NIP) chiffré, un bloc répondant aux exigences de l'ANSI X9.8 et d'un réseau de guichets automatiques bancaires (GAB) (suite à la saisie par le consommateurs des numéros d'identification personnels et au chiffrement automatique qui s'en suit); 2) à utiliser un/des niveau(x) de chiffrement supplémentaire(s) (ce chiffrement étant également exécuté dans le dispositif d'accès à l'Internet du consommateur) de manière à placer le bloc NIP et les informations relatives à la carte dans un bloc de données d'opérations financières de paiement ("Bloc OF") chiffrées à clé publique/privée; 3) à transmettre le bloc OF au commerçant avec toute information de commande nécessaire relative à un produit ou à un service, laquelle information peut être transmise sous une forme chiffrée ou en clair en fonction du procédé de mise en oeuvre choisi par le logiciel du système dans le site web du commerçant; 4) le logiciel du commerçant achemine ensuite le bloc OF vers un système sécurisé de gestion des opérations, dans lequel ledit bloc est déchiffré au moyen d'un algorithme de déchiffrement correspondant à celui qui est utilisé par le logiciel du dispositif d'accès à l'Internet du consommateur. Les données financières sont ensuite re-formatées afin d'être transmises au réseau de traitement des opérations correspondant, et acheminées vers le processeur de service de paiement. Le dispositif décrit dans la présente invention ne dépend pas du/des algorithme(s) de chiffrement utilisé(s); il peut être mis en oeuvre avec un nombre quelconque d'algorithmes de chiffrement.
