An apparatus (10) for growing a crystal having a solid surface (11a) comprising a silicon oxide and a solid surface (12a) comprising an alumina, wherein the solid surface (11a) and the solid surface (12a) are arranged so that both of them contacts with a solution (14) containing a protein to be crystallized. The solid surface (11a) and the solid surface (12a) have surface potentials or zeta potentials which are different from each other upon the contact with the solution (14). In an embodiment, the solid surface (11a) has a negative charge and the solid surface (12a) has a positive charge and thus a negatively charged protein (13) is selectively adsorbed by the positively charged solid surface (12a), which results in the growth of the crystal of the protein (13) on the solid surface (12a). The apparatus is useful for the crystallization of a biopolymer such as a protein.
L'invention concerne un appareil (10) permettant de faire croître un cristal présentant une première surface solide (11a) qui renferme un oxyde de silicium, et une seconde surface solide (12a) qui renferme une alumine. La première (11a) et la seconde (12a) surfaces solides sont disposées de sorte qu'elles se trouvent en contact avec une solution (14) contenant une protéine destinée à être cristallisée. Ces première (11a) et seconde (12a) surfaces solides affichent par ailleurs des potentiels de surface ou des potentiels zêta qui différent l'un de l'autre une fois lesdites surfaces en contact avec la solution (14). Dans un mode de réalisation, la première surface solide (11a) possède une charge négative alors que la seconde surface solide (12a) possède une charge positive, une protéine chargée négativement (13) pouvant donc être sélectivement absorbée par la surface solide chargée positivement (12a), ce qui favorise la croissance cristalline de ladite protéine (13) sur cette surface solide (12a). Enfin, l'appareil de cette invention peut servir pour la cristallisation d'un biopolymère, par exemple une protéine.
