A method and apparatus to assess cardiac function in a subject involves supporting a probe in the trachea for transmitting movement of the trachea in response to heart function. The transmitted movement is detected by a sensor which generates a waveform signal. The waveform signal is displayed and assessed to determine cardiac function. By directly engaging the trachea, the apparatus and method of the present invention are sensitive to very small accelerations, velocities or displacements of the trachea to permit accurate measurement of cardiac function.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'évaluer la fonction cardiaque d'un sujet. Ce procédé consiste à placer une sonde dans la trachée, cette sonde servant à transmettre le mouvement de la trachée en réponse à la fonction cardiaque. Le mouvement transmis est détecté par un capteur qui génère un signal de forme d'onde. On affiche et on évalue ce signal de forme d'onde afin de déterminer la fonction cardiaque. Grâce au contact direct avec la trachée, ce dispositif et ce procédé sont sensibles à de très faibles accélérations, vitesses ou déplacements de la trachée, et permettant ainsi une mesure précise de la fonction cardiaque.
