ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable, compact, hand held, all weather apparatus for identifying of birds through audio recognition by the use of a built-in audio receiver and prerecorded and blank memory chips. A microprocessor is programmed to conduct a sonagraphic comparison of bird calls as recorded with sonagrams of a plurality of birds stored in memory. A built-in visual screen displays data from the memories library in both a text and graphic format upon a successful sonagraphic identification of the bird being made. It is also possible to use the apparatus as a recorder in order to digitally record and store in memory individual bird songs and information of the owner's choice. A synthesized version of the bird's song can be produced for audio comparison. An internal power source supplies power to the components.
