ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATIC CATCHING OF FISH Apparatus for use in catching a fish comprises a receptacle for receiving the lower end of a fishing rod and a ground engaging spike for engaging into the ground. The spike includes a horizontal cross piece which has a latch at one end for latching onto a base of the receptacle. A pivot coupling link is pivotally connected to the top end of the spike and to the receptacle allowing the receptacle to rotate about the upper end of the pivotal link to release the latch. A spring is connected from the end of the cross piece opposite to the latch to the pivotal link to pull the receptacle once the latch has been released so as to snap the rod in a direction opposite to its initial movement to cause a hooking action on the fish.
