An apparatus for automatically connecting suc- cessive tape-like workpieces end to end, comprising: a spool pallet situated in a travelling path of the in- dividual tape-like workpiece and including a predetermined number of take-up spools and means for supporting the spools in row and having a tape stopper for restricting and releasing the movement of the tape-like workpiece; a slide table having a guide por- tion for guiding the spool pallet to a fixed position and for locking the spool pallet there and movable to a position in alignment with the supporting means; means, situated at a fixed position forwardly of and near to the slide table, for moving the tape-like workpiece forwardly and backwardly to a predetermined length in the travelling path; first and second tape grippers, situated along the travelling path and downstream of the moving means, for releasably grip- ping the tape-like workpiece and for moving toward and away from each other in the traveling path; a cutter situated between the first and second tape grippers for cutting the tape-like workpiece transversely; and means for welding a trailing end of a preceding tape- like workpiece with a leading end of a succeeding tape-like workpiece and for connecting the welded portion of the successive tape-like workpieces flat by pressing the welded portion from upper and lower sides.
