Apparatus for bending an elongated member (12) transversely to a web (46) thereof without substantially altering the cross- sectional configuration thereof including a form (11) having a plurality of pivotal seats (17 and 26) and flexible plates (39). Flexi- ble mandrels (63) including a plurality of parallel plates (67) are received within the elongated member (12) and, in combination with a plurality of clamps (52, 53 and 54) the form (11) and a press plate (33) supporting the elongated member (12), prevent the bending forces exerted thereon from distorting the cross-sectional configuration of the elongated member (12). The form (11) dis- tributes the exerted force required to bend the elongated member (12) over a selected length thereof, thereby reducing the unit for- ce exerted on any selected point to a level that will not buckle the elongated member (12).
