An apparatus is provided for breaking up plant material. The apparatus includes a receptacle having an inlet opening and an outlet opening therein. A cutting member, including a plurality of blades, is rotatably supported at the inlet opening and driven by a motor. The blades of the cutting member comprise fan blades which are suitably oriented for directing a flow of air into the receptacle in operation. The arrangement of the cutting member in which the blades comprise fan blades, ensures that plant material cut by the cutting member is drawn into the receptacle and thus the broken up material is readily collected.
