ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the case of an apparatus for bridging expansion joints in bridges and similar structures which is provided with one lamella, or with several lamellae, positioned in the longitudinal direction of the slit of the joint, the lamellae are braced against the edges of the joint. Partial traverses connecting lamellae with each other and with the edges of the joint promote favorable distribution of the vertical forces, stable support for lamellae, and simultaneous control of the distance. Partial traverses are always rigidly connected with one lamella or with one edge of the joint and with at least one neighbouring lamella via elastomer supporting bodies, stressed by shearing forces, in such a manner that they form an elastic supporting chain which extends from one edge of the joint to the other. In order to brace the lamellae in the case of larger joints, there are cross beams provided -- in addition to partial traverses -- whose ends have sliding support in the opposite joint edges. Partial traverses are always positioned in the aperture in one joint edge or in one or several lamellae or in the aperture in at least two lamellae.
