APPARATUS FOR BRIDGING OVER AND SEALING EXPANSION JOINTS, FOR EXAMPLE IN ROADWAYS ABSTRACT The device is in the form of a watertight joint cover running lontitudinally of a joint. Individual supporting plates are arranged side by side and are longitudinally spaced apart in the direction of the joint and bridging same. The supporting plates are connected, so as to resist shear, to bordering members anchored in edges of the joint by means of continuous elastomeric intermediate layers. Upwardly open settlement joints extend, on each side of the joint, between the intermediate layers and the bordering members, the bordering members each consisting of a flange and a bottom sheet, mounted adjacent the sides of the joint and resting upon a sub-structure on the edge of the joint. The invention is characterized in that the elastomeric intermediate layer, defining each settlement joint on the side of the joint is in the form of a corrugated resilient web; the flange of the bordering member defining each settlement joint on the side of the joint and closing off the plane of the roadway, is corrugated to match the corrugations of the resilient web; the supporting plates substantially cover the space between the resilient webs extending on each side of the joint; the bordering members, corresponding to the supporting plates, are divided at right angles relative to the joint. Finally, elastomeric connecting members are provided for the resilient webs, the bordering members and the supporting plates, to define a butt-joint in each vertical dividing plane, running at right angles to the joint, the members being sealingly connected with appropriate resilient webs.
