ABSTRACT Apparatus for charging a shaft furnace for burning and sintering material in lump form, such as limestone, dolomite, magnesite, cement or the like has a distribution cone in the vicinity of whose lower cone edge are provided articulated distribution flaps adjustable by means of a linkage passing coaxially through the distribution cone; the impact surface of said flaps are located on a truncated cone coaxial to the distribution cone and the pivoting of said flaps makes it possible to vary the diameter of the base of the truncated cone. Deflector plates are arranged in spaced manner in the vicinity of the outer end of the flaps and the impact surfaces thereof are at least approximately parallel, preferably substantially parallel, to that of the particular distribution flap.
