ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for cleaning a steam generator by of a high-pressure lance has a base which is to be secured over an opening in the wall of the steam generator to be cleaned, and which is provided with a lance passageway wherein the lance is rotatable and axially shiftable. A first engage able and disengage able friction coupling mounted on the lance is axially shiftable to-and-fro for axially shifting the lance and a second engage able and disengage able friction coupling mounted on the lance is rotatable for rotating the lance, a control mechanism being provided for controlling the couplings so that when the one coupling is engaged, the other one is disengaged.
