ABSTRACT TITLE APPARATUS FOR CLEANING THOSE COMPONENTS OF PLASTICS-PROCESSING MACHINES To WHICH PLASTIC RESIDUES ADHERE An apparatus for cleaning those components or parts of plastics processing machinery to which plastic residues adhere consist of an air-tight and closeable container which accommodates the components. The container has a heating system for raising a thermal medium to a temperature above the melting point of the plastic residue. The container can be tilted about a horizontal axis between a horizontal charging position and an upright operating position. A tank for the thermal medium is arranged to be beneath the container when in the charging position, and is connected to the container such that, when the container is tilted into the operating position, the thermal medium flows into the container and when the container is returned to the charging position the medium flows back into the tank. An overflow establishes the maximum charge level of the thermal medium within the container. The apparatus can be used primarily for the convenient, energy and time efficient cleaning of extruder screws.
