ABSTRACT In known nozzle applicators the application chamber with the metering system following on the side where the paper leaves the chamber forms a structural unit. Therefore, changing the coating angle by pivoting the metering system inevitably results in a change in the geometry of the application chamber with negative effects on the flow pattern in the chamber. According to the invention the metering system is pivotable independent of the application chamber about an axis parallel to the axis of the backing roller and is sealed by a sealing element against the restriction of the chamber. The invention allows for adjustment of the coating weight during coating of paper webs by changing the coating angle within a large range without negatively influencing the flow conditions in the application chamber.
