ABSTRACT Apparatus for compensating non-linearities in the time behavior of the frequency f(t) of a first signal includes a delay element, coupled to receive the first signal, for producing a second (delayed) signal; a signal mixer for mixing together the first and the second signals to produce a third signal having frequencies which are the sum and difference of the frequencies of the first and second signals; and a device responsive to the third signal for producing a sampling signal having a frequency which is dependent upon the frequency of the third signal. This sampling signal defines the instants of time at which the frequency of the first signal has changed by a prescribed amount .DELTA. f.
