Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for compressing and holding a hanked package of flexible material during fastening is disclosed in which a package which has been transferred from a previous winding station, is resiliently compressed by arms that are urged toward a support for the hanked package to compress the package, separate means fastening the hanked package while compressed, and after fastening the arms release the package.
