ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A slip joint assembly comprising a first tubular member, a second tubular member telescopically slidable and generally concentrically received in the first tubular member to form an annulus between the first and second tubular members, means disposed in the annulus operative to selectively fix the first and second tubular members against relative axial movement and to effect a seal between the first and second tubular members comprising means for forming a bridging weld in the annulus between the first and second tubular members.
