Abstract An apparatus for controlling shaping and curing pressure in a mold. The apparatus comprises a source of pressurized steam for providing steam to a single inlet of the mold, the steam pressure from the source being equal to or greater than a maximum steam pressure required for shaping and curing of a green tire. The apparatus further comprises a single electrically controlled inlet valve operatively connected between the source of pressurized steam and the mold. The electrically controlled inlet valve is responsive to an electrical valve control signal for controlling the amount of fluid flow between the source of pressurized fluid and the mold over a predetermined time period so as to increase steam pressure and pressure in the mold in accordance with a predetermined desired functional relationship. A single electronically controlled outlet valve is operatively connected between the mold and atmosphere and controllably connected to the electronic control unit. After curing is complete, the electronic control unit controls the inlet and outlet valves so as to decrease pressure in the mold in accordance with a predetermined functional relationship over time.
