ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A control valve is disclosed for actuating a downhole tool in response to changes in the rate of flow of drilling fluid through a pipe string. Specifically, the control valve is described in combination with downhole tools of the knuckle joint or bendable sub type used in directional drillings. The control valve produces an increase in surface pressure to indicate when the valve has been actu- ated.
