Apparatus (1) for cooling a hot gaseous medium comprising: a vessel (2) wherein a bundle (3) of a number of pipes (4) are disposed in a coolant medium compartment (5) and wherein in use a liquid coolant medium (6) flows around the pipe bundle (3); (i) said pipes (4) being mounted at least at or near their upstream ends in a thermal shield (7), (ii) said pipes (4) further extend through a support plate (8) mounted at a distance from the thermal shield (7) determining a front space (9) between the thermal shield (7) and the support plate (8) in the vessel (2) separated from the coolant medium compartment (5), (iii) means (10) to add liquid coolant to the front space (9), (iv) the openings (11) in the support plate (8) are larger than the pipes (4) defining an annular space (12) between pipe and support plate, through which annular space (12) liquid coolant can flow co-current with the hot gaseous medium in the pipes (4) from the front space (9) to the cooling medium compartment (5), (v) wherein a skirt type extension (13) is present around the pipe (4) in the front space (9) fixed to the support plate (8) and having an opening (14) at the thermal shield (7).

L'invention porte sur un appareil (1) permettant de refroidir un milieu gazeux chaud, cet appareil comprenant: un réceptacle (2) dans lequel un ensemble (3) de tuyaux (4) est disposé dans un compartiment (5) de milieu réfrigérant et dans lequel en utilisation, un milieu réfrigérant liquide (6) s'écoule autour du groupe de tuyaux (3); (i) un tuyaux (4) étant monté au moins ou à proximité de leurs extrémités verticales dans une enveloppe thermique (7), (ii) ce tuyau (4) s'étendant également dans une plaque de support (8) montée à une distance de l'enveloppe thermique (7) définissant un espace frontal (9) entre l'enveloppe thermique (7) et la plaque de support (8) du réceptacle (2) séparé du compartiment (5) du milieu de refroidissement ; (iii) un dispositif (10) prévu pour ajouter le réfrigérant dans l'espace frontal (9) ; (iv) des orifices (11) ménagés dans la plaque de support (8) sont plus grands que ceux du tuyau (4) formant un espace annulaire (12) entre les tuyaux et la plaque de support, espace annulaire (12) par lequel le réfrigérant liquide peut s'écouler avec le milieu gazeux chaud dans les tuyaux (4), de l'espace frontal (9) au compartiment (5) du milieu de refroidissement ; (v) une extension de type jupe (13) entoure les tuyaux (4) de l'espace frontal (9) fixé à la plaque de support (8) et présentant un orifice (14) au niveau de l'enveloppe thermique (7).
