ABSTRACT Signal correction apparatus for use in a video disc playback system wherein an FM video signal is recorded on the disc in an alternating sequence of light reflective and light non-reflective regions forming a plurality of substantially circular and concentrically arranged informa- tion tracks, and wherein the signal is recovered from the disc using an objective lens to focus a beam of radiation onto a selected track, as the disc is rotated with respect to the beam at a prescribed rate. The objective lens has a limited resolving power, so the video signal recovered from the disc is increasingly bandlimited as the radius of the selected track decreases, thereby causing a variation in the relative amplitudes of the luminance and chrominance portions of the reproduced signal. The signal correction apparatus operates to correct for such band limiting by detecting the amplitude of the successive chrominance bursts in the recovered video signal and producing a corresponding gain control signal, and by controllably amplifying in accordance with the gain control signal the portion of the FM signal spectrum near the FM carrier, where the luminance informa- tion is primarily located, whereby a substantially constant relationship between the respective amplitudes of the luminance and chrominance portions of the video signal is achieved, regardless of the radius of the information track from which the signal is recovered.
