Abstract of the Disclosure A sheet of wood is cut from timber by feeding the timber along a guide surface and into contact with a cutting edge. The cutting edge is inclined relative to the direction of feed so that the sheet is cut progressively from one lateral side to the other of the timber. To ensure that the timber is properly pressed against the guide surface to produce a sheet of uniform thickness, specially configured pressure rollers are provided. Each pressure roller extends at a right angle to the feed direction and each pressure roller has a first section located in front of the cutting edge, and a second section located behind the cutting edge. The first section is of greater diameter than the second section to ensure that a sufficiently strong pressing force is applied against the uncut portion of the timber.
