An apparatus for demonstrating relative drive efficiency is described which includes a support, a first drive assembly and a second drive assembly. The first drive assembly and second drive assembly are mounted on the support. The first drive assembly includes an electric drive motor and a machine capable of performing work powered by the electric drive motor. The second drive assembly similarly includes an electric drive motor and a machine capable of performing work powered by the electric drive motor. A pair of identical visual displays are provided; one of which is acted upon by the first drive assembly and the other of which is acted upon by the second drive assembly. The visual displays provide visual confirmation of the relative work being performed by the first drive assembly and the second drive assembly. A pair of power consumption gauges are provided to monitor relative power consumption in view of the work being performed; one of which is coupled to the first drive assembly and the other is coupled with the second drive assembly. The apparatus, as described, is a tool for use in public education as part of a demand side management strategy.
