Abstract o the Disclosure: An apparatus for detecting a surface flaw of a hot metal including a particularly designed television camera, shutter means and control circuit which compensates television camera's shading as well as temperature difference among normal parts of observed material. The apparatus makes it possible to conduct clear detecting of the flaw on the surface of the hot material as it is so that the yield loss at the time of scarfing can be avoided while the heat energy can effectively be utilized.
