Abstract of the Disclosure A device for detecting the occurrence, at any point along a substantial length of a well, of a temperature that exceeds a predetermined value. An elongated temperature sensor having the capability of detecting the occurrence of a high temperature at any point along its entire length is placed in the well so as to extend the length of the zone to be observed. The sensor is connected to a detector at the surface, which on the occurrence of a high temperature can optionally activate an alarm, record the occurrence of the high temperature, and initi- ate corrective action.
