ABSTRACT In apparatus for detecting material and processing defects in balls, the balls are acoustically irradiated by means of an ultrasonic test unit and are at the same time rotated. At least two ultrasonic vibrators are provided, the axes thereof being spatially offset in relation to each other, or offset and rotated, with one bundle of sound-waves being directed perpendicularly to scan the interior of the ball, and the other, or others, being directed obliquely to scan the surface of the ball and regions close to the surface. The ball has consecutively at least two different directions of rotation, or an axis of rotation not fixed in space.
