An apparatus for determining the concentration of a medically significant component of a biological sample, the apparatus including first and second keys for use in operating the apparatus, the keys extending from a common support mounted in the apparatus, each of the keys having a reduced cross sectional hinge portion adjacent to the common support whereby substantially independent activation of the first and second keys is provided. Also described is an instrument for determining the concentration of a medically significant component of a sample, the instrument including a controller, at least one key for the entry of information by a user, and a display for displaying results of tests to determine the concentration of the medically significant component of a sample, the controller coupled to the at least one key and to the display to permit the user to enter into the controller a first user-defined range of values for the concentration of the medically significant component of the sample, the display displaying the first user- defined range, and the controller producing an indication during a subsequent determination of the concentration whether the subsequently determined concentration falls within the first user-defined range.

Il s'agit d'un appareil permettant de déterminer la concentration d'un composé d'intérêt sur le plan médical présent dans un prélèvement biologique. L'appareil est pourvu de touches que l'utilisateur enfonce pour faire fonctionner l'appareil. Les touches reposent sur un support commun lui-même fixé à l'appareil et chacune des touches possède une forme telle que leur largeur diminue graduellement en direction du support commun, ce qui permet l'activation indépendante de chacune des touches. L'invention concerne également un instrument permettant de mesurer la concentration d'un composé d'intérêt sur le plan médical présent dans un prélèvement. L'instrument en question comprend un dispositif de commande, au moins une touche dont l'utilisateur peut se servir pour saisir des données et un écran affichant les résultats des analyses (la concentration du composé d'intérêt sur le plan médical présent dans le prélèvement). Le dispositif de commande est relié aux touches et à l'écran, ce qui permet à l'utilisateur de saisir une plage de valeurs personnalisée pour la concentration du composé d'intérêt sur le plan médical et l'écran affiche la première plage précisée par l'utilisateur. € l'issue de l'analyse subséquente, l'appareil indique si la concentration mesurée se situe ou non dans la première plage de valeurs définies par l'utilisateur.
