ABSTRACT A digital data recovery apparatus for extracting phase encoded data from mass storage devices is disclosed. Storage device clocking signals are counted and compared to expected number of counts determined by a reference clock. The difference between the expected count and the observed count is used to vary a window clock which determines the length of time groups of data signals can be exchanged with the storage device. The recovery apparatus uses digital components and eliminates the need for phase-locked oscillators implementing analog devices.
