The invention provides an improved apparatus for directional boring and in particular an improved system for boring through hard and rocky substrates frequently encountered when boring under obstacles such as roadways. According to one aspect of the invention, a directional drilling apparatus includes a drilling head (30) having a front face (62) angled relative to the lengthwise axis of the tool and configured for steering the drilling apparatus, a housing (32) having an internal chamber for mounting an electronic locating device therein rearwardly of the drilling head (30) for transmitting a signal indicating the orientation of the angled face of the drilling head (30), and a joint (200) at which the drilling head is removably mounted to the housing of the locating device. The joint (200) includes a splined connection for passing torque from the sonde housing (32) to the bit (31) and an interlock mechanism which mechanically secures the bit (31) to the sonde housing (32) in a manner permitting the bit (31) to be manually removed from the housing (32) without undue difficulty.
L'invention concerne un appareil amélioré de forage directionnel et, en particulier, un système amélioré de forage dans des couches dures et rocheuses souvent présentes lors de forages sous des obstacles tels que des chaussées. Selon un aspect de l'invention, un appareil de forage directionnel comporte les éléments suivants: une tête de forage (30) à face d'attaque (62) oblique par rapport à l'axe longitudinal de l'outil et conçu pour conduire ledit appareil; un logement (32) doté d'une chambre interne pour monter, à l'arrière de la tête de forage (30), un dispositif électronique de positionnement permettant de transmettre un signal qui indique l'orientation de la face oblique de la tête de forage (30); et un joint (200) au niveau duquel la tête de forage est montée de manière amovible sur le logement du dispositif de positionnement. Le joint (200) comprend un raccord cannelé pour faire passer le couple du logement (32) de la sonde au trépan (31), et un mécanisme de verrouillage qui fixe mécaniquement le trépan (31) au logement (32) de la sonde, de façon à faciliter l'enlèvement manuel du trépan (31) du logement (32) de la sonde.
