An apparatus for disabling a reciprocating pump jack during servicing includes a first clamping assembly which is adapted to engage a walking beam of the reciprocating pump jack and a second clamping assembly adapted to engage a base of the reciprocating pump jack. A tether extends between the first clamping assembly and the second clamping assembly, thereby limiting movement of the walking beam.
