A light distribution system is used in a method for converting solar or artificial light into electricity by collecting, concentrating and time- sharing light to a number of photovoltaic cells. A convergent lens and an optional optical collimator provide an intense parallel beam directed onto a spinning mirror reflecting the beam in a radial plane to its axis of rotation and time-distributing it to a number of photovoltaic cells which are in an inside surface of a cylinder in the plane. The apparatus has DC or AC output capability, in accordance with the connecting pattern of the PV cells and is protected against burnout due to spinning mirror failure by stopping the beam at a window. A light pipe can be used to carry the light from the collector to the mirror. The device can be used to transmit power in a laser beam to a remote station such as a robot. The same concept of distributing collimated natural or artificial light can be used where the receivers are optical fibers instead of PV cells to supply a series of lighting fixtures fed by the same collector.
La présente invention a trait à un système de distribution de lumière utilisé dans un procédé pour la conversion de la lumière du soleil ou artificielle en électricité par la collecte, la concentration et le partage dans le temps de la lumière à une pluralité de cellules voltaïques. Une lentille convergente et un collimateur optique facultatif fournissent un faisceau parallèle intense dirigé sur un miroir tournant réfléchissant le faisceau dans un plan radial à son axe de rotation et sa distribution dans le temps vers une pluralité de cellules photovoltaïques qui se trouvent en une surface intérieure d'un cylindre dans le plan. L'appareil comporte une capacité de sortie de courant continu ou de courant alternatif, selon la configuration de connexion des cellules photovoltaïques et est protégé contre le claquage dû à une défaillance du miroir tournant par l'arrêt du faisceau au niveau d'une fenêtre. Un conduit de lumière peut être utilisé pour le transport de la lumière depuis le collecteur jusqu'au miroir. Le dispositif peut être utilisé pour la transmission d'énergie dans un faisceau laser vers un poste distant tel qu'un robot. Le même concept de distribution de lumière collimatée naturelle ou artificielle peut être utilisé où les récepteurs sont des fibres optiques au lieu de cellules photovoltaïques pour alimenter une série de luminaires alimentés par le même collecteur.
