ABSTRACT OF' THE DISCLOSURE: Apparatus for diverting and distributing a gas stream. To ensure that a vertically downwardly flowing gas stream is diverted and uniformly distributed over the entrance cross-section of a dust-collecting electrostatic precipitator, which is flown through in a horizontal direction, and to simultaneously effect a preliminary separation of dust, it is proposed to provide a partition, by which the downwardly tapering, wedge-shaped entrance passage is divided in such a manner that part of the gas stream is compelled to flow to the upper portion of the entrance cross-section. As a result, the gas stream flow- ing in the lower portion of the electrostatic precipitator does not have a much higher dust content and the dust- collecting surfaces can be utilized in an improved and more uniform manner.
