ABSTRACT The invention relates to a device for electrostatically purifying non-conductive liquids such as oil. Separation of fine particles in the liquid is materially enhanced by position- ing dust or particle collecting members in a direction parallel to the direction of the electrostatic field set up between opposed electrodes. Anode and cathode plates are disposed in a tank in opposed parallel relationship. Liquid enters the tank near its bottom and through a conduit having apertures, is discharged or directed upwardly between the opposed plates. A plurality of dust or particle collecting members made of porous dielectric fiber material are positioned between opposed plates and arranged in parallel with the direction of the electric field when set up between opposed plates and also is in parallel upward flow of liquid. Liquid is drawn off from the tank at a point above the plates whilst precipitate collecting in the tank bottom may also be conveniently withdrawn.
