A high-intensity focused ultrasound device has an applicator surface, a liquid-containing bolus or expandable chamber acting as a heat sink, and a source of ultrasonic vibrations, the applicator surface being a surface of a flexible wall of the bolus, the source of ultrasonic vibrations being in operative contact with the bolus. The applicator surface is disposable in contact with a surface of a target body, the source is energizable to produce ultrasonic vibrations focused at a predetermined focal region inside the target body, and a temperature of liquid in the bolus is controlled while the applicator surface is in contact with the surface to control temperature elevation in the target body between the focal region and the surface of application.
L'invention concerne un dispositif ultrasonore focalisé haute intensité. Le dispositif comporte une surface d'applicateur; un récipient ou une chambre expansible contenant un liquide servant de dissipateur thermique; et une source de vibrations ultrasonores. La surface d'applicateur est constituée par une surface d'une paroi flexible du bol; la source de vibrations ultrasonores est en contact fonctionnel avec le bol. La surface d'applicateur peut être en contact avec une surface d'un corps cible; la source peut être excitée pour produire des vibrations ultrasonores focalisées à une région focale prédéterminée à l'intérieur du corps cible; et la température de liquide renfermé dans le récipient est régulée pendant que la surface d'applicateur est en contact avec la surface afin de réguler l'élévation de température dans le corps cible entre la région focale et la surface d'application.
