A drilling apparatus controls or eliminates reaction torque from drill bits thereby preventing loss of penetration due to undesired rotation of the drilling apparatus or controls drilling direction by intentionally manipulating reaction torque thereby inducing desired drill bit walk. The drilling apparatus has a concentrically divided drill bit in which an inner drill bit rotates simultaneously in the opposite direction from an outer drill bit. The inner drill bit can be moved axially forward from or back toward the outer drill bit. Forces produced by the inner and outer drill bits are controlled to eliminate or adjust reaction torque.
Un appareil de forage commande et élimine le couple de réaction des trépans, empêchant ainsi la perte de pénétration attribuable à la rotation non souhaitée de l'appareil de forage, ou commande la direction du forage en manipulant intentionnellement le couple de réaction pour ainsi produire le pas désiré du trépan. L'appareil de forage est muni d'un trépan à éléments concentriques dans lequel un trépan intérieur tourne en même temps qu'un trépan extérieur, mais en direction opposée. Le trépan intérieur peut être déplacé axialement vers l'avant ou vers l'arrière en direction du trépan extérieur. Les forces générées par les trépans intérieur et extérieur sont commandées afin d'éliminer ou de régler le couple de réaction.
