- 1 - ABSTRACT In the case of an apparatus, which is used for emptying sacks filled with bulk material and which comprises a feed device transporting the sack within the apparatus, a cutting device in the form of a circular knife, and an emptying means for swivelling the two sack portions upwards and towards each other by means of two swivel plates provided with pricks as well as a receiving hopper for the bulk material, the fol- lowing features are provided for achieving reliable, com- plete emptying of the sack and for preventing parts of the paper of the cut sack from dropping into the bulk material: that the circular knife of the cutting device is arranged in such a way that its top is positioned on a lower level than the upper side of the ssck, thst, between the swivel plstes of the emptying mesns, which sre sdspted to be swivelled upwards, an upright sbutment plste, which supports esch rsised ssck portion separstely, is arranged in verti- cally spsced relstionship with the swivel plstes so that the circulsr knife cuts the ssck only on the underside thereof and on the transverse sides following ssid underside and so thst the ssck portions remain ~oined also during the emptying process, the upper side of the ssck being swivelled upwsrds into contsct with the abutment plate during the sack emptying process.
