Abstract (in conjunction with Figure 2) To transfer reels (11) to supporting journals (15, 16) of a reel-changing device (12) of a packaging machine (10), the supporting journal (15) is axially displaceable. As a result, the reel can be delivered in the working plane or run-off plane without any transverse displacement and held in the receiving position, whilst the supporting jour- nal (15, 16) penetrates into a central orifice (42) in the reel (11) as a result of axial displacement.
